We're all well-versed with what IQ is - Intelligence Quotient - but how many of us know about EI or Emotional Intelligence. Well, Emotional Intelligence is about being aware of our own emotions as well as those of others. It is the capability of handling interpersonal relationships judiciously and with empathy. A higher IQ is futile if you’re low on EI, because having higher EI shows that you’re a human and not a robot. A person with higher emotional intelligence has many good traits such as the following... 1. They quickly adapt to change They swear by that Charles Darwin quote, "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change." They change cities and they learn the local language, get used to the local food and transport. They don’t get hung up on the past. They change accordingly to the situations. 2. They put themselves in others' shoes before judging anything People with higher emotional intelligence are empathetic. They’re compassionate and kind and think about what others go through during tough situations. 3. They are highly focussed Nothing can distract them, unless they let them. They accomplish achievements by working hard on their goals. Their productivity is something to envy and you would never see them wasting time. 4. They are pros when it comes to balancing work and play They are the rare folk who have found balance is whatever they do. If they work hard, they also see to it that they play harder. You will never see them complaining about too much work as they know they will sort out everything. 5. They know their strongest qualities and their vulnerable weaknesses If they don’t know something, they admit that they don’t know it. They know that they aren’t perfectionists. Boasting is not what they are known for. They are very self-aware and know their strengths and their shortcomings. 6. For them, the present is a precious gift, and the past a lesson They are never stuck in the past. Even if they are, they constantly make attempts to move on. Learning from their past mistakes is how they move forward without being stagnant. 7. They are always open to suggestions They don’t get offended easily and take criticism well. While taking suggestions, they don’t see hierarchy and listen to people even of the lowest rank. For them, ranks and position count for nothing. 8. They are self-motivated You will always see them smile, even in tough situations. They don’t get bogged down by situations and people. Even if they do, they pull up their socks and start afresh. 9. They know when to speak and when to remain silent People with higher emotional intelligence know the power of silence. They remain quiet and only speak when they are asked to. Which is why, they are never caught with their foot in their mouth. 10. They are great at damage control They know how to rise like a phoenix from the ashes. Their friends make them 4 AM calls to fix up their lives, and these folk come up with life-saving situations. 11. They are grateful They have found their inner peace and it shows. They are grateful with what they have and they never compare themselves to others.
