In order to promote the Sydney International Food Festival, advertising firm, WhybinTBWA Australia, created a campaign using traditional foods of various countries to recreate their national flags. Let these stellar images be your guide to what you should try should you ever visit these countries in the near future. Or if you’d like to bring the taste of these nations into your own kitchen.
1. Australia
The country down under proclaimed pies (sweet and savoury) as their national dish, the meat pie being the most popular.
2. Brazil
The country loved for its festive carnivals is also renowned for its fresh fruit. This is created with a passion fruit on a slice of pineapple with a green backdrop of lime slices and a banana leaf.
3. Here’s India!
The tricolour is made from butter chicken, a bed of rice and jeera thoran (??). A papad for the Ashoka Chakra seems like a bad idea though…
4. China
Just to clarify… those are not starfish! They are sliced star fruit on a bed of sliced dragon fruit.
5. Greece
The olives aren’t exactly blue, but let’s imagine they are, shall we? Feta Cheese and olives are divine, in case you thought this mix was a little bizarre.
6. France
Blue cheese, Brie cheese and Pinot Noir grapes. Anyone up for some wine and cheese?
7. Japan
Maguro (Tuna sashimi) on a dome of short grained Japanese rice. Less is more.
8. Italy
Basil leaves, spaghetti and Romano tomatoes. The devil wears these better than Prada.
