The Cadillac Cyclone, is possibly the most rocket-like car on the list. But the two black, torpedo-like cones are not merely for show, they actually house radars which inform the car’s unique ‘crash avoidance’ system, known more commonly in today’s cars as ‘adaptive cruise control’. The car would make beeping noises and flash lights at the driver if they got too close to an approaching object, and it could even apply the brakes automatically if necessary. Stylistically, the Cyclone also featured an electric-operated canopy that could be stowed away in the rear, as well as exaggerated rear fins which addes to its futuristic appearance.

The 1956 Buick Centurion was another to conceptualize some innovative features years before they came into common production. Most notably, it integrated a Rear View Camera to increase safety and allow for easy parking. Other features did not catch on quite so widely, such as the astronautical inspired bubble top roof with integrated windscreen. Its unique body work and airplane-styled interior make it a car that enthusiasts will either love or hate.
