Most people use firewood to keep warm while camping or to make smores. LA-based designer Paul Foeckler of Split Grain uses it for something else… He creates beautiful wooden lamps. “The project began with me taking notice of an ordinary piece of firewood and thinking it too beautiful to burn”, Foeckler wrote. He then started experimenting with different pieces of firewood, searching for hidden beauty, and soon realized that cutting the wood into precise slices brings out natural beauty that “would otherwise go unnoticed”. Now Foeckler sells his beautiful lamps on Etsy for people to include them in their everyday spaces. “There’s no sense in finding hidden beauty in things without people seeing them.
